9 TIPS FOR WORKING FROM HOME WITH KIDS

During the time of the novel Coronavirus and home quarantine, a lot of us will end up working from home with the kids. Below you will find tips on how to make the balance between work and parenting.

1. Set reasonable expectations for you and for them

This is not normal. Don’t act like it is. It’s not reasonable to expect to be as productive as when you work from office. This applies all the time if you work from home with kids there.

2. Multitask

Make use of the time your kids are occupied with playing but still need your presence to do work on some mindless tasks like deleting old e-mails. Those effortless things are good to do when you have to keep an eye on your kids so that your spouse can have his or her “deep work” time.

3. Find unique places to work

If you don’t usually work from home, you might not have a home office, and you’ll have to find a place to work any room with a door that you can close.

4. Buy an electric griddle and occasionally make sandwiches for everyone

You’ll be a hero. Plus, it will save much time than ordinary traditional rice and veggies dinner.

5. Be sneaky

Occupy your kid with a playing task and grab your computer or phone and write quick emails or texts, or make a to-do list, or anything that you can do fast. Then you can cook breakfast together.

6. Ear plugs

Can help you focus at any moment and any place even if the kids are making noise.

7. Take turns

Work with your life partner in shifts, you can squeeze in time over the weekend; you can work at night, etc.

8. Use iPads

It is ok to use devices to distract your kids when you both need to work. Same goes for books, puzzles, games, etc.

9. Be flexible

If you’re a person who loves strict schedules, none of that is going to happen with kids in the house. We all know these days are exceptional and we hope they won’t last for long so be flexible as much as you can.
